Summer Assignment for Parents

As many of you know, MES continues to be such a great school that we grow every year by leaps and bounds! However, we continue to grow, DeKalb has no long range plan for how to house students other than trailers in the parking lot. We project that after two more years, the lot will be full and our geography hampers an easy transition to using modulars in other areas of the campus. Thus, the MES School Council is asking parents to help us request an engineering study to look at our topography to see how we can use our land to more and better capacity. DeKalb Planning has told us that unless our parents campaign steadily for a study, it most likely will not happen. We will continue to see band aid solutions to long range growth issues, ones are easily predictable and need to be addressed before they arrive.

Due to this, we have a draft of a letter, complete with contacts, that would would ask every parent to send via mail or email to our board member and DeKalb officials. Due to its importance, you will receive this letter as a reminder a few times over the summer. Please take a few minutes now to let our officials know that we need an engineering study to review the best solutions to our facilities problem. Many thanks for your attention to this and please feel free to contact any School Council member with any questions or concerns. Have a safe and happy summer!  Click here for the letter and the names and email addresses of those to send it to.

Chamblee Fun Mud Run Recruiting

If you are a parent of a rising 6th grader coming into Chamblee Middle School next year, or even a rising 5th grade parent heading to the middle school in fall 2017, we need YOU to come on board the Chamblee Fun Mud Run Volunteer Committee!! The majority of our core volunteer team have rising 8th graders and will be phasing out after next year, so keeping this fundraiser going falls to incoming CMS parents who want to be a part of an awesome event and cause. The CFMR has raised close to $60K to benefit the CMS Education Foundation — it has also put Chamblee Middle School on the map in the hearts and minds of this community.

We are recruiting for several positions — school year 2016/17 would be a learning year, you would shadow the person in the current role; school year 2017/18 would be a teaching year, you are in the role teaching the incoming person — so in a perfect world, this is a two-race commitment:

  • Race Director
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Registration & Race Bag Pickup
  • Webmaster
  • PR/Publicity
  • Sponsorship Sales & Coordination
  • Course & Obstacle Logistics
  • Obstacle Construction & Mud
  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Race Day Coordinator
  • Food Trucks Event

(Rising 5th Grade Parents: Because the race is in late spring, the $50+K raised at Mud Run 2017 will directly benefit your child coming into 6th grade at CMS in fall of 2017! Please consider jumping on board early!)

We have laid a strong foundation for this race, and putting on the event gets easier each year as we get more races under our belts. Please consider putting your talents and energy into this event — it is incredibly rewarding!!

For more information about any of these roles, please contact Kelly Morehouse, kellymorehouse@bellsouth.net.
Thank you for your consideration!

Remember our Passive Fundraisers over the summer!

MES families have done a fantastic job supporting the passive fundraisers this year! This is just a reminder to please keep up the great work during the summer months! Please continue to use your MES Publix and Kroger cards while grocery shopping. Simply hand them to the cashier at checkout. When they scan it, a percentage of the money for your purchase will come back to our school. If you need a new or extra Publix card, they are available in the front office. Also, when you shop online at Amazon this summer, please remember to use smile.amazon.com, especially when back to school shopping. Select theMustang Fund as your charity and a percentage of your spending will be donated. Additionally, if you order from Lands’ End, remember to use our preferred school number 900079245. Continue to collect box tops over the summer as well to get a head start for next year! These are just a few of the many easy ways you can keep earning money for our school this summer. For a complete list, please visit the website at

Thank you so much for all of your support!
