2016-2017 Back to School Fair/Registration Day

Wednesday August 3rd
A-L: 8:00-10:00
M-Z: 10:00-12:00

Don’t miss the Back to School Fair on Wednesday, August 3rd.  At the Back to School Fair, plan to visit informational tables, learn about PTA Fundraising efforts, learn about and register for extracurricular activities like Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Chess Club, receive bus information, receive your carpool number, register for the lottery drawing of the Mustang Extended Day Program, drop off classroom supplies, and meet your child’s teacher.

Parents and guardians are required to bring:

  • a copy of your current proof of residency (a current utility bill will suffice)
  • a copy of your photo ID for each child attending Montgomery.  For example, if you have 3 children attending Montgomery Elementary, you will need to bring 3 copies of each document.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to make copies or have access to print that day.  If you come to the school without the appropriate documents, you will be asked to return home and return with these materials. Once again, even if you filled out paperwork last spring, you will still need to bring this paperwork on Wednesday 8/3.

In order to accommodate all families and strive for a seamless flow, the Fair is divided into two sessions. If your last name begins with A-L, please attend the 8-10 am session; if your last name begins with M-Z, please attend the 10-12 am session. We ask that everyone attend the correct session to assure manageable traffic and parking. This will also give teachers the proper time to personally welcome each student.

For questions regarding the Back to School Fair, please contact Jaime Gordon at jgordon@gordonstreetrealty.com.

Back to School Fair Tips

  • If possible, come during the 2nd hour of your time slot. The Fair will be much less busy and your wait times will be significantly less.
  • If you have to come at 8am, please have patience. Remember, this is your child’s first school experience of the year. Make it a positive one for them.
  • Please complete your PTA online registration before coming.
  • Don’t forget a copy of your utility bill to prove residency as well as a copy of your ID (1 copy of each per child).
  • Please remember that you have to come to the Back to School Fair to enter the lottery for the After School Program.

Summer Assignment for Parents

As many of you know, MES continues to be such a great school that we grow every year by leaps and bounds! However, we continue to grow, DeKalb has no long range plan for how to house students other than trailers in the parking lot. We project that after two more years, the lot will be full and our geography hampers an easy transition to using modulars in other areas of the campus. Thus, the MES School Council is asking parents to help us request an engineering study to look at our topography to see how we can use our land to more and better capacity. DeKalb Planning has told us that unless our parents campaign steadily for a study, it most likely will not happen. We will continue to see band aid solutions to long range growth issues, ones are easily predictable and need to be addressed before they arrive.

Due to this, we have a draft of a letter, complete with contacts, that would would ask every parent to send via mail or email to our board member and DeKalb officials. Due to its importance, you will receive this letter as a reminder a few times over the summer. Please take a few minutes now to let our officials know that we need an engineering study to review the best solutions to our facilities problem. Many thanks for your attention to this and please feel free to contact any School Council member with any questions or concerns. Have a safe and happy summer!  Click here for the letter and the names and email addresses of those to send it to.

Chamblee Fun Mud Run Recruiting

If you are a parent of a rising 6th grader coming into Chamblee Middle School next year, or even a rising 5th grade parent heading to the middle school in fall 2017, we need YOU to come on board the Chamblee Fun Mud Run Volunteer Committee!! The majority of our core volunteer team have rising 8th graders and will be phasing out after next year, so keeping this fundraiser going falls to incoming CMS parents who want to be a part of an awesome event and cause. The CFMR has raised close to $60K to benefit the CMS Education Foundation — it has also put Chamblee Middle School on the map in the hearts and minds of this community.

We are recruiting for several positions — school year 2016/17 would be a learning year, you would shadow the person in the current role; school year 2017/18 would be a teaching year, you are in the role teaching the incoming person — so in a perfect world, this is a two-race commitment:

  • Race Director
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Registration & Race Bag Pickup
  • Webmaster
  • PR/Publicity
  • Sponsorship Sales & Coordination
  • Course & Obstacle Logistics
  • Obstacle Construction & Mud
  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Race Day Coordinator
  • Food Trucks Event

(Rising 5th Grade Parents: Because the race is in late spring, the $50+K raised at Mud Run 2017 will directly benefit your child coming into 6th grade at CMS in fall of 2017! Please consider jumping on board early!)

We have laid a strong foundation for this race, and putting on the event gets easier each year as we get more races under our belts. Please consider putting your talents and energy into this event — it is incredibly rewarding!!

For more information about any of these roles, please contact Kelly Morehouse, kellymorehouse@bellsouth.net.
Thank you for your consideration!
